Former Chelsea player Gustavo Poyet has said that N’Golo Kante is easily the best midfielder in the world.
Since coming to the Premier League, he has become the only player to win successive league titles with different clubs after fellow Frenchman Eric Cantona in 1993.
There is no coincidence that Leicester and Chelsea won the league with Kante in the team, winning such awards as twice being in the PFA team of the year, as well as winning PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season.
Whilst out with a hamstring injury earlier this season, Chelsea had to live without him for a while, losing to Crystal Palace famously and AS Roma in the Champions League.
Poyet said (via The Standard):
He’s easily the best central midfielder in the world. Easily. He would play in a World XI, no doubt. I know there are players like Casemiro, Sergio Busquets but he’s better than them.
Chelsea are already nine points off Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team, with Kante playing most of the games, including losses to Manchester City and the shock 3-2 loss on the first day of the season to Burnley.
However, Chelsea managers, such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and now Antonio Conte, seem to lose something after winning the league, which Poyet spoke about (via The Standard):
Winning the title, it’s a virus.
When you’re champions everyone wants to kill you.
So although they aren’t reaching the same heights as last year, Chelsea are still doing well in Europe and according to Poyet, they have the best midfielder in the world.
