Chelsea target Samuel Umtiti wants new Barcelona deal

Chelsea are likely to add to their defensive ranks in the summer and recent reports have linked the Blues with a big-money summer swoop for Samuel Umtiti.

The France international centre-back joined Barcelona for just £22.5m in the summer of 2016 and has become a regular in the team alongside Gerard Pique at the back, but a release clause in his contract has seen him emerge on the radar of both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Available for just £53m, Barcelona are hoping to tie Umtiti to a new long-term contract which sees that release clause inflated, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the 24-year-old defender is happy to stay at the Nou Camp.

However, Umtiti would want a significant pay rise in order to stay put as he is aware he could make serious money playing in the Premier League

Chelsea are set to part ways with David Luiz in the summer with the Brazilian having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and Umtiti has been identified as a possible replacement.
