Chelsea target Bruno Fernandes looks to end Sporting stay

Chelsea reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP earlier on in the year, with the midfielder establishing himself as an impressive talent in Liga NOS.

The player is a prized asset for Sporting but amid a hugely concerning period for the club, it seems a move away for Fernandes is nothing more than an inevitability at this stage.

According to claims from Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, Fernandes has submitted his resignation from Sporting, requesting that his contract is rescinded.

This comes following increased tension at the Liga NOS giants, who have seen their supporters turn against several members of the club’s first-team.

Fernandes, along with William Carvalho and Gelson Martins, are claimed to have requested the termination of their deals at Sporting, putting a number of clubs on red alert.

Originally regarded as one of Sporting’s most valuable players, Fernandes could walk away from the club on a free transfer, as the turmoil at Estádio José Alvalade continues.

Chelsea wouldn’t have been keen to pay the full extent of Fernandes’ £87m release clause at Sporting but with the potential of a free transfer presenting itself, a summer move may not be beyond the realms of possibility.
