Maurizio Sarri has vowed to sign Dries Mertens this summer, regardless of what club he ends up at.
The Telegraph reports that Sarri, who is expected to take over at Chelsea, has told the Belgian forward that he will sign him, even if that is not at Stamford Bridge.
Mertens has been touted as a possible transfer target for Chelsea this summer, but it is yet to be seen whether either Napoli or the Blues would agree to such a deal.
Antonio Conte has tried and failed to sign Mertens on two previous occasions for Chelsea, with the club deeming him to be too old.
Sarri is a huge admirer of Mertens and played a crucial role in his transition from a wide player to a central striker at Napoli.
However, Napoli are pushing to include a ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ in the deal to take Sarri to Chelsea that will see the manager told not return to Naples in an attempt to sign any of his former players.
