Chelsea to activate Oblak’s €100m release clause

Chelsea are set to activate the release clause of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo report that the Blues want to the goalkeeper to replace Thibaut Courtois, who has told Maurizio Sarri he wants to leave the club this summer.

The latter has been heavily linked with a move away from London throughout the summer, but the Blues have made their chance clear, they need a replacement signed before any deal can be sanctioned.

Chelsea had been hoping to sign Alisson from Roma, but the Brazilian opted for Anfield at the last minute.

Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Pepe Reina have all been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, but time is now running out for the Premier League side to make a move.

Sarri has expressed his desire to keep the player at the club this summer, but that is looking increasingly unlikely.

Oblak has been linked with moves away from Atletico for some time now. Liverpool were said to be interested prior to signing Alisson.
