Thibaut Courtois has told Maurizio Sarri he wants to leave Chelsea, according to ESPN.
As we reported earlier today, Sarri hinted that he’d allow Courtois to leave if he personally requested a transfer, and it appears that the Belgian has done exactly that.
Courtois apparently met with the new Chelsea manager as he returned to pre-season training today and told him that he wants to move to Real Madrid.
Speculation about the Belgian international’s future has been rife for the majority of the summer after he admitted that he wants to move back to Spain as he wants to be closer to his family, who still live in the Spanish capital following Courtois’ loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
Sarri made it clear that he only wants committed players at the club, but it’s highly unlikely that he would approve a sale without Chelsea finding a suitable replacement.
With just a few days to go until the window closes, Chelsea will need to act fast to bring in a new goalkeeper. However, the Spanish window will remain open until late August, so there is no rush in terms of selling Courtois before Thursday afternoon.
