Barcelona cool interest in Chelsea target Paqueta

Chelsea and Liverpool have seen their hopes of landing Lucas Paqueta from Flamengo boosted by the news that Barcelona have cooled their interest in the Brazilian midfielder.

Sport, as cited on Calciomercato, claim that the Catalan side are no longer in the running as they refuse to meet the Brazilian club’s asking price for the player.

Milan, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with the player, while Chelsea were also believed to be keen throughout the summer.

Paqueta is gathering a lot of interest for his performances in Brazil and it is believed that a move to Europe could be imminent.

The 21-year-old has a €50 million release clause in his current deal with Flamengo which runs until 2020.

Given his young age and the big step that is a move to Europe, it is easy to see why Barcelona may not be keen to spend so much.

Playing as an attacking midfielder, Paqueta has six goals and two assists to his name this season.
