Morata happy after finding place in Sarri’s Chelsea set-up

Chelsea striker Álvaro Morata has explained how he fits into Maurizio Sarri’s new style Blues team.

The 26-year old Spain international began life at Stamford Bridge in fine form, but after honeymoon phase wore off, the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward has struggled to consistently score goals for the London club.

That difficult form carried over into the new season, where Morata has faced criticism and has frequently been linked away from the club on account of his poor form.

However, in recent weeks, the forward has found himself back amongst the goals again, having netted in Chelsea’s Europa League game against MOL Vidi and against Southampton in the Premier League.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official match-day programme, as reported by Football.London, Morata had this to say on how he fits in Chelsea’s squad:

I need to come and get on the ball, connect with the midfielders and the wingers, and then I need to attack the box after that – but not to be in the box all the time.

When you come to take the ball deeper, it’s different – it means you attack the box and that makes it difficult for the other team because you arrive running.

Despite not being able to score against Manchester United last weekend, the Spaniard admitted he is feeling more confident after a Spain re-call during the last international break. Morata continued:

I’m in a good way now. I want to score more goals, to play more games, but at the end of the day the most important thing is the team wins, the other things come with that.

Right now, we are near the top of the Premier League and we are in a good position in the Europa League, so we need to continue in the current way because, with a little bit of luck, I think we can fight for all the trophies this year.
