Gattuso insists Chelsea target Higuain hasn’t asked to leave
AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has insisted that Gonzalo Higuain has not yet asked him to leave the club, amid reports linking him with a move to Chelsea.
It is believed that the Blues are chasing a deal for the former Real Madrid striker as they look to add more firepower to their attacking options.
Alvaro Morata has struggled to convince under Maurizio Sarri this season and Olivier Giroud’s form has been similarly underwhelming, leading the Italian boss to play Eden Hazard in a more central role in recent weeks.
However, speculation regarding a move for Higuain continues to persist, with recent reports claiming that Chelsea have seen a bid rejected by Milan for their star forward.
Speaking ahead of his side’s Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus on Wednesday, Gattuso was quizzed about the 31-year-old’s future at San Siro.
As quoted by Football Italia, the manager said:
At this moment, I have to repeat the same words: there are many rumours, but Higuain is training well, working with everyone just fine and is at our disposal.
I want to reiterate that Higuain has never told me he wants to leave. I am waiting for that.
I want to be honest, I didn’t even want to talk about Higuain, as we’re here for the Supercoppa. That seemed the fair thing to do for a team.
