Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal continued as they were comprehensively brushed aside by Arsenal, who now stand just three points behind The Blues in the hunt for Champions League football.
Played out like a Broadway musical, the game followed the script to perfection, Chelsea would dominate the ball before being pressed into mistakes and punished by a well drilled and efficient attacking set up. French forward Alexandre Lacazette took to the lead role with consummate ease, firing in from a tight angle, to bring the audience to their feet in adulation before veteran defender Laurent Koscielny bundled home to double the Gunners’ advantage.
Despite having over 60% possession, Chelsea failed to register a single shot on target until the 82nd minute, and that would be their only one of the game as Sarriball hit yet another snag in its pursuit of free-flowing attacking play.
Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Brighton, their seventh in a row, now means that both they and Arsenal are within touching distance of Maurizio Sarri’s goal-shy outfit.
