Cahill feeling left out in cold after Malmo exclusion
Gary Cahill’s Chelsea career appears to spluttering to an undignified conclusion.
The central defender had found playing time hard to come by under new boss Maurizio Sarri, but was stunned to find himself left out of the squad that travelled to Malmo in Sweden for the first leg of the Blues’ Round-of-32 Europa League tie.
The Daily Telegraph report that the 33-year-old has been made to feel “like a ghost” by Sarri, having not pulled on the famous blue shirt since November’s Europa League group-stage clash with PAOK.
Despite having been tipped with a move away from Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, the veteran defender was retained by his current club.
Several teams have been linked with moves for the former England international, who racked up over 60 caps for his country.
Ever the professional, Cahill is said to have continued training to the best of his ability, without demanding answers from his first-year boss.
