Chelsea will not be making Gonzalo Higuain’s loan move permanent once the season reaches its conclusion, according to reports in Italy.
The 31-year-old was signed in January, having already been on loan at AC Milan from Juventus.
Higuain has disappointed on the whole, however, scoring just three goals, all of which have come against relegated Premier League pair Huddersfield Town and Fulham.
Chelsea had the potential of signing the Argentine permanently in the summer, but they look set to turn down the opportunity.
The reports claim he will return to Italy, although Juventus also see no future for him with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line.
The only possible stumbling block for the Blues is the potential two-window transfer ban they face, but even then they may still choose to move Higuain on to pastures new.
The January arrival of the former Argentina striker always felt like it could either be a roaring success or a failure – unfortunately for Chelsea, it has proved to be the latter.
