Sarri gives update on Kante injury ahead of second leg clash

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has provided an update on midfielder N’Golo Kante’s injury after the player was forced off the pitch in their last game.

The Frenchman had to be substituted in the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Kante played the full 90 minutes in their first leg against Frankfurt, where Chelsea couldn’t find a winning goal to break the 1-1 deadlock before the full-time whistle went.

And it seems the midfield machine will not be available for the second leg after Sarri has shed light on the player’s injury.

As reported by the Evening Standard’s Simon Johnson, Sarri said his plan is to rest the player for a couple of weeks as a result of a hamstring injury, and he will ‘recover him in case of the [Europa League] final’.

He also made clear that he can “not be sure if he’d be fit for the final but can try”.

The 28-year-old has been a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield this season, and it will be down to Sarri to chose who is capable of filling his role in the remaining games of the year, including the Europa League final, should they progress on Thursday.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has impressed fans towards the end of the season and had an outstanding game against Watford, scoring the first goal of the match after replacing the injured Kante.

The 23-year-old has scored some important goals for Chelsea this year, finding the back of the net three times in the Europa League while picking up three assists, the young midfielder surely deserves a spot in the starting XI this Thursday.
