Who Has Been Chelsea’s Best New Arrival So Far?

Much was made of Chelsea‘s summer business as Frank Lampard was allowed to dip into the market for the first time in his tenure as head coach following a transfer ban when he took the reins in the summer of 2019.

The Blues wasted little time delving back into the market and the summer saw the arrival of no fewer than seven first team-ready players from across Europe, although Malang Sarr was loaned out swiftly to FC Porto.

Overall, the squad saw a £222.48m investment during the summer, £72m of which went directly on German sensation Kai Havertz, who was signed from Bayer Leverkusen.

Those summer signings to have stayed at the Bridge have begun to make an impact in west London, and the previous defensive frailties have shown signs of being rectified in recent weeks as Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy get the Blues’ defensive act together, with Lampard’s men shipping just one goal in their last six games compared to seven in the preceding four matches.

Elsewhere, both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have influenced matters in an attacking sense, with four Premier League goals and three assists respectively. Indeed, the latter has been in sparkling form since returning to fitness.

Finally, Chelsea’s only domestic arrival saw the club bring in Ben Chilwell from Leicester and the left-back has made a promising start, with two goals and two assists in his first five league appearances.

Heading into the international break, Chelsea sit fifth in the table with 15 points from the first eight matches, as well as making a positive start in their Champions League group.

With memories jogged and stats in mind, it’s time for a duel to decide who has been the pick of the summer signings so far. Have your say by voting below…
