Chelsea Player Ratings: Newcastle United (A)

Chelsea came away from St James’ Park with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Frank Lampard‘s side were almost imperious on Tyneside, a place where the Blues have historically struggled to collect all three points, dominating proceedings almost from the off and coming away having enjoyed the lion’s share of possession

Chelsea went ahead after 10 minutes when Magpies defender Federico Fernandez turned a cross into his own net under pressure from Ben Chilwell.

Having spurned numerous chances to double the lead, Timo Werner was the architect behind Chelsea’s second when his pace took him clear of the defence before playing in Tammy Abraham for his third goal in as many matches

Edouard Mendy was called into action once or twice as the clock ticked down but overall the Senegalese goalkeeper was well protected by the new-look central defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea are next in action on Tuesday night away in France to face Rennes in the Champions League.

Here’s how we rated the Blues players from the win at Newcastle…
