Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Chelsea will be looking at bringing in Moises Caicedo after his recent admission and their current midfield situation.
Graham Potter was appointed the new Blues Head Coach last month and could potentially reunite with Brighton midfielder Caicedo.
While still in charge of the Seagulls, Potter claimed that it would take close to £100m for the south-coast side to part ways with their prized asset.
However, Caicedo himself told Ole, via the Evening Standard, that ‘nobody would turn down an offer from them (Chelsea)’ and described the idea of playing for the Blues as a ‘dream,’ which could make negotiations easier.
Addressing their midfield In the market will likely be a priority for the west Londoners in the coming windows, considering both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante see their contracts expire at the end of the season.
Now O’Rourke believes that the 20-year-old refusing to rule out a move to the capital is a real positive for Chelsea and is convinced it’s something they will be looking at.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s an obvious link, after Graham Potter moved to Chelsea, with one of his former Brighton stars being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as well.
“We know how well Caicedo did at the back-end of last season and has done at the start of this season. He has really impressed and I think, for Chelsea, there are a few doubts over their midfield going forward.
“N’Golo Kante and Jorginho’s futures are uncertain, so I think it’s something Chelsea would be looking at.
“It always helps if a player does suggest that he would be interested in a move to the club as well.”
Given the list of potential suitors, holding the potential ace card in the form of his ex-boss Potter could be a deal breaker.
Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham United, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen have all shown an interest in the Ecuadorian gem but it could be Liverpool that provide the stiffest form of competition if Chelsea were to pursue a transfer.
South American outlet Studio Football (via The Mirror) claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were ‘looking to sign’ the 5 ft 10 in ace and were in the process of ‘preparing a bid’ worth around €50m (£42m).
However, Todd Boehly and co. will be hoping that the English head coach’s relationship with the ‘top notch’ enforcer, as described by journalist Sam Tabuteau, will help them win the race for Caicedo’s signature.
