Chelsea’s behind-the-scenes revolution is set to continue, with talks over a new technical director now in the “final stages”.
What’s the word?
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to issue the update surrounding the Blues’ latest appointments in a variety of off-field roles at Stamford Bridge.
Romano said: “Chelsea revolution continues as talks to appoint Christopher Vivell as new technical director are progressing to final stages — he’s expected to join soon.
“Laurence Stewart announced today, Joe Shields deal 100% sealed.”
Boehly’s big intent
In order to fulfil his role as a competent owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly could quite easily have signed just a solitary sporting director and called it a day.
Instead, here he is assembling a team of illustrious names, having already secured the signings of Monaco’s Laurence Stewart and Southampton’s former head of recruitment Joe Shields, who brought erstwhile Chelsea target Romeo Lavia to the south coast from the Etihad Stadium.
Vivell now looks set to be the latest off-field recruit at Stamford Bridge, having parted ways with RB Leipzig earlier this month due to “contrasting views” according to i News.
This move intensifies the growing professional relationship between Chelsea and the Bundesliga club, with the Blues having signed Timo Werner from the Red Bull-owned outfit in 2020 and agreed a deal in principle for current Leipzig star Christopher Nkunko for next year.
Vivell will be responsible for data and scouting, as per The Telegraph, and will be the most recent recruit of Boehly’s behind-the-scenes team, in what makes for another statement of intent from the American.
