Chelsea loanee Denis Zakaria has endured a tough time at the club so far, but that could soon change if Fabrizio Romano’s latest update is anything to go by.
What’s the word?
The Italian super-journalist relayed an update from Graham Potter in the pre-match press conference vs Dinamo Zagreb.
And it’s one that bodes well for his future in SW6.
Taking to his personal Twitter page, Romano said: “Graham Potter on Denis Zakaria loan deal: ‘He’s been really good, trained well, supported his teammates’
“’He’s disappointed not to play, like everybody is. He’s in the frame, in the squad, available. We will wait and see’.”
About time
It is rather strange that we have not already seen Zakaria in action for Chelsea, having made his move in the summer alongside a £30million option-to-buy.
The Switzerland international completely fits the profile that Potter usually looks for in the midfield, with his defensive nous making him an almost perfect fit in a defensive-shielding midfield partnership just ahead of the back three.
Though, his defensive ability would also see him shine as a single pivot in either a three or four-at-the-back system.
The 25-year-old’s average of 21.53 touches in the defensive areas per 90 is astoundingly high and demonstrates where his priority lies.
He deserves a chance at Chelsea, and he may just be in with a shout according to the latest update relayed by Romano.
