Chelsea have a lot left to play for this season. They will be looking to finish it strong and qualify for the Champions League again. Of course, that might not be easy. Manchester United and Liverpool have both found form lately as well. With Aston Villa struggling a bit in recent months, could they end up missing out if the Blues can make a strong run to finish off the campaign?
At the same time, Chelsea are still in the current edition of the Champions League. They will be taking on PSG in a tough last 16 tie. The luck of the draw was not certainly on their side this time around. The same cannot be said for the FA Cup though. After beating Wrexham, the Blues will now face Port Vale in the quarter-finals of the competition.
So, there is still a lot of meaningful football left to be played at Stamford Bridge this season. Despite that, quite a few eyes might already be on the upcoming summer transfer window.
It is quite clear that this squad is not good enough to be competing with the truly elite teams. They need to strengthen in the summer. But Chelsea’s insistence on sticking to signing youngsters might be hurting their chances of challenging for titles. Now, it looks like a new wonderkid is on their radar.
Chelsea linked with move for rising German wondered
According to Kicker, Chelsea and Newcastle United are also currently making strong bids for Said El Mala. Brighton & Hove Albion also hold interest in the German winger.
It is worth mentioning that El Mala has changed agents recently. He is now being represented by his parents. Of course, this has given rise to speculation that a summer exit is on the cards.
Does it make sense for Chelsea to go after El Mala?
El Mala has arguably been the Bundesliga’s breakout star of the season. He has scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists in 25 appearances in the German top flight this season, while making only 11 starts.
It is not hard to understand why Chelsea might be interested in El Mala. He fits their transfer model perfectly.
That said model might need a few tweaks though. Geovany Quenda has done brilliantly for Sporting CP and is viewed as someone who can play on that left flank. But before he has even arrived, which the Portuguese winger will do next summer, the Blues are already being linked with another player in that position.
