UEFA make official Paris Saint-Germain vs Chelsea announcement

When Chelsea met Paris Saint-Germain the last time around, it was a one-sided contest. Of course, most people had been expecting one. But it was the French side that had been predicted to come out on top quite easily. After all, it had not been long since they beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final. Or Real Madrid 4-0 in the Club World Cup semi-final.

Naturally, football fans were expecting a rout. They did get one. But Chelsea were the ones that came out on top by a convincing 3-0 scoreline to lift the first-ever Club World Cup in the summer. Cole Palmer scored a brace and then assisted Joao Pedro’s strike as well.

Chelsea will be hoping for those two to produce some more magic this week, when the two teams meet again, this time in the Champions League. Neither team is at the top of their game right now.

Despite that, this promises to be a tight contest between the European and World champions. And now, UEFA have made an official announcement regarding the game.

UEFA announce officials for PSG vs Chelsea

As reported by UEFA’s official website, Alejandro Hernández will be the referee for the game between PSG and Chelsea this week in the French capital. He will be assisted by José Naranjo and Diego Sánchez Rojo, with José Luis Munuera as the fourth official. Carlos del Cerro Grande will be on VAR duty. He will have Cesar Soto Grado as his assistant.

Chelsea fans might not be exactly pleased with Hernandez as the man with the whistle. The Blues’ record with him as referee is not exactly glittering. They have lost on both occasions.

They lost 2-1 to Atalanta in the Champions League earlier in the season when Hernandez was the referee. In the previous campaign, he was also in charge of their 2-1 defeat to Legia Warsaw.

Chelsea or PSG, which team is in better form?

Chelsea have been inconsistent throughout the season. That has become a defining character for the Blues in recent years, even as the management continues to overlook experience and proven quality.

It had looked like Chelsea were moving in the right direction with the 4-1 win over Aston Villa. But the poor performance against Wrexham in the FA Cup at the weekend has raised fresh doubts.

On the other hand, PSG have not been at their blistering best either. They have just a one-point lead in Ligue 1 over Lens. They have lost two of their last five league games.

When it comes to the Champions League, they needed to get through a play-off to qualify. And in that tie, they only won narrowly against AS Monaco, even though the opposition had a player sent off in each league.
