Four seasons into the BlueCo project, there has been little sign of progress over that period of time. The Club World Cup triumph was a welcome high, but those have been rare and far between. Once again this season, the Blues are in a struggle to qualify for the Champions League. And considering the momentum of the team, it is unlikely that they will make it.
Chelsea have won just one of their last five Premier League outings, have one foot out of the Champions League and saw Reece James pick up another hamstring injury at the weekend.
Earlier, reports came out suggesting that the club management felt that it would take a few more years for Chelsea to start winning trophies again. If you ask me, they have shown little to suggest that those estimations can be trusted.
For one thing, the club’s best players are expected to start leaving soon, if Chelsea don’t start competing at the highest level again. There has already been plenty of speculation around Cole Palmer. And now, it looks like Enzo Fernandez could be eyeing the exit door as well.
Reliable Argentine journalist claims Enzo Fernandez could leave Chelsea this summer
Gaston Edul is a very reliable Argentine journalist. He is one of the most trusted voices in the game, when it comes to players from Argentina. So, his update on the future of Fernandez should worry Chelsea fans about what the future holds.
Edul posted on X that there are chances of Fernandez leaving Chelsea in the next European summer transfer window.
That would be terrible news for Chelsea. Fernandez is an integral part of this Chelsea team and one of the few that has shown that he is capable of competing at the highest level. If the Blues are to be successful in the future, they need a player like the Argentine. So, if he does indeed leave the club in the summer, it would come as a major blow.
Could Fernandez leave this summer?
Of course, a lot will depend on how Chelsea finish this season. That being said, it is not hard to understand why someone like Fernandez might be eyeing a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
He arrived at Chelsea in early 2023, soon after Argentina’s World Cup triumph, and has remained a starter since then. But after seeing the Blues struggle for the past four seasons, it is understandable why someone like Fernandez could be starting to give up on this project. Many fans already have.
That is something that the club’s owners need to understand. They might feel that they are putting together a young squad that will need time to click. But those same players, at least the best of them, won’t stick around for long if there is no success.
If Fernandez does leave Chelsea, there would be no lack of interest. Real Madrid have been linked with him for years. PSG have been suggested as a destination as well. Some English clubs might come calling too.
