Despite bringing in four players in the summer, Chelsea still lack that bit of edge going forward. That was on full display against Newcastle United at the weekend, as they lost 1-0 in a toothless display at home. From the aforementioned signings, Joao Pedro has been the only success story. Alejandro Garnacho has had his moments here and there. Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens are shaping up to be flops.
It would not be any surprise if Chelsea go out and try to strengthen up top this summer as well. The fans have been calling for some proven quality for a long time. But it looks like the Blues could be sticking to their failing transfer model.
A Galatasaray winger is said to be on their radar. Baris Alper Yilmaz is enjoying an excellent campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing 14 assists in 40 appearances.
That kind of form has caught the eye of Chelsea. But they are not the only ones keeping an eye out on the Turkish international.
Newcastle United, Brighton and Crystal Palace eyeing winger wanted by Chelsea
According to Takvim, the scouting teams of Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United, who have been in contact with the player’s agent for some time, will be following Yilmaz at Anfield and reporting on his performance against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 game. It is understood that the three teams will continue to monitor him until the end of the season.
Yilmaz has a contract with Galatasaray until the summer of 2028. So, they will not be under any pressure to part with him this summer. It is believed that a transfer fee in the region of €45-50 million could be needed to pull off a move.
Who is Baris Alper Yilmaz?
Yilmaz started his career in the fourth division of Turkish football with Ankara Demirspor. His performances there earned him a move to second-tier side Ankara Keciorengucu.
Eight goals in his first season with Keciorengucu and Galatasaray made their move for Yilmaz. He has been with them since the summer of 2021, slowing developing into a key player for the Turkish giants and is closing in on 200 appearances for them.
It is over the last two seasons that Yilmaz has found top form. He is also a full Turkish international, having made 31 appearances for the national team. Now, 25 years of age, a big move might be awaiting him in the summer. Could Chelsea be his next destination?
