Chelsea will sign Argentine left-back from Union Santa Fe

Chelsea have signed quite a few Argentine players since the BlueCo takeover. Enzo Fernandez has been one of the faces of the project. He was signed from Benfica straight after his World Cup triumph with Argentina for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €121 million.

In the summer, the club also brought in Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. The winger has shown flashes of quality but remains far from a player who can be a starter at Chelsea for years to come. Facundo Buonanotte was signed on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion but that was cut short in the middle of the season. And Aaron Anselmino currently find himself on loan at Strasbourg but injuries have hurt his development since leaving Boca Juniors.

Lately, there have been talks about Chelsea making a move for Valentin Barco of Strasbourg. But before that can lead anywhere, it appears that the Blues have another Argentine player on their radar.

The player we are talking about is Mateo del Blanco. He is a 22-year-old Argentine left-back currently playing for Union Santa Fe.

According to Renzo Pantich on AZZ, Del Blanco will be signed by Chelsea and then loaned out to Strasbourg.

Chelsea set to make another project signing with Del Blanco

Del Blanco has played all his football in Argentina so far. So, it remains to be seen how he adjusts to European football.

Of course, there have not been many, if any, rumours about Chelsea making a move for Del Blanco in he summer before this. So, the report does come a bit out of the blue.

It would be a mistake to count anybody out before they have kicked a ball in a Chelsea shirt. That being said, many will question the chances of the 22-year-old Argentine developing into a left-back that can compete for a first-team spot at Stamford Bridge.

BlueCo pushing on with transfer model despite fan complaints

It also shows that BlueCo are ready to push on with their transfer model, even though fans are not happy with it and have constantly called for some experienced and proven players to be signed. It looks like the owners are indeed convinced that they are on the right path.

Let’s see if the move for Del Blanco does indeed end up happening or not. It certainly feels like a signing that this Chelsea will be happy enough to make though.
