Even though Liam Rosenior is still the Chelsea manager, it feels inevitable that he will be sacked in the near future if things don’t improve soon. Of course, the briefings suggest that he maintains a good relationship with BlueCo and has their backing. We heard the same things about Graham Potter as well. But eventually, the club had no choice but to sack him.

After four straight losses, we might reach the same point with Rosenior soon as well. It is very likely that the club will give him until the end of the season to turn things around. But at some point, even BlueCo’s patience will run out.

Fans will already be eyeing potential replacements for Rosenior. And one name is starting to do the rounds frequently.

Chelsea might need their identity back. A proven winner. Someone who knows what it takes to succeed at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps somebody like Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas suggested as replacement for Rosenior

Fabregas has been suggested as an immediate replacement for Rosenior by Rory Jennings, although the talkSPORT co-host appears to have doubts whether the Spaniard would be willing to work under this model. He said:

“Genuinely if the club’s standards are anything close to what they should be, I do know what the answer is.

“The answer is sack Rosenior now… just get him out of the club now, get on the phone immediately to Cesc Fabregas.

“Somebody who understands Chelsea, somebody who won the league with us, somebody who knows what the standards should be, somebody who has an affinity with the fans, somebody who was an elite player themselves.

“What we need is somebody like that, the club will never do that because Fabregas has too much pride, he would never exist and work within these parameters.

“But if we were a club that were serious, that’s what we would do.”

Appointing Fabregas would be a risky move for Chelsea as well

It is safe to say that the Rosenior experiment is failing. But that does not mean that Fabregas would be a guaranteed success for the club.

Still just 38 years old, Fabregas is an inexperienced manager himself. He has done a very good job at Como FC so far. But would that translate to Chelsea? It very well might not. He is not the proven winner, at least in management, that the Blues need at this point in time.

Fabregas has one key advantage over Rosenior though. He is someone who is used to the pressure and the big moments. He won two Premier League titles with Chelsea. The Spaniard was Arsenal captain. He played in an iconic Barcelona team with Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi. He has even won the World Cup with Spain.

So, Fabregas might not have a wealth of experience when it comes to management, but he does know what it takes to succeed in high-level football. That is something that Rosenior does not. And it is starting to show as things go wrong at Chelsea. The early confidence that the Englishman showed has faded over time and he now sounds like someone making excuses for his shortcomings. That is the last thing fans want to hear.

But as Jennings mentioned, Fabregas might not be keen on the job. The BlueCo model is one under which most managers would struggle. Taking the Chelsea post could derail the Spaniard’s rising managerial career. It might not be a risk he is willing to take at this point.
