In recent days, there has been a lot of discussion around Enzo Fernandez and his potential Chelsea exit. It stemmed from reports breaking in Argentina about his chances of leaving. Then, the midfielder not ruling out an exit when asked about it after the PSG game further fuelled those rumours. Since then, the suggestion has been played down by those at the club.
Nobody can be completely certain despite that though. The way Chelsea are going, a number of their players might start considering potential departures. And it looks like one of their forwards is eyeing the exit door, although for a very different reason.
Chelsea signed two strikers in the past summer transfer window. Joao Pedro has had his ups and downs, but overall, he is the one that has shown a bit of quality.
Their forward signing from last summer, Liam Delap, has looked completely lost. He has scored just once in the Premier League since joining Chelsea. And if reports are anything to go by, he is already weighing up a potential exit.
Delap reportedly eyeing summer exit from Chelsea
According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Delap is eyeing a move away this summer. According to the journalist, the striker fears he will become the third-choice at the club, who are set to sign Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg.
Considering Delap’s lack of form this season, that is a reasonable thing to be worried about. Also, Liam Rosenior has worked with Emegha in the past. That might give him an edge, if the Englishman does remain the club’s manager, come next season.
It would be a mistake to completely forget about Nicolas Jackson either. It is quite clear that he does not have much of a future at Bayern Munich. Could he try to rebuild his Chelsea career? If so, he certainly brings more to the table than Delap. Perhaps even Pedro, when you consider his overall play.
Quite a few clubs have been linked with Delap already
Newcastle United are a club that has been linked with a move for Delap already. It is believed that the two held positive conversations last summer before his move to Chelsea.
Going to a team like Newcastle United might not be a bad idea for Delap. In fact, his move to Chelsea might have been a bad stylistic fit from the very beginning.
Delap is the kind of striker who thrives on spaces behind the opposition defence. He rarely gets that at Chelsea, with the opponents mostly playing a low block.
