Chelsea find themselves in a world of trouble right now. The Blues have lost four on the trot. And in their last three games, they have not even been able to score a single goal. That will cause Liam Rosenior major headaches, as he tries to save his job as manager. Briefings might suggest that he still has the backing of the board. But ultimately, it is results that determine a coach’s standing at Stamford Bridge.
Graham Potter was believed to be well-liked by BlueCo as well. But they did have to sack him, when it became clear that he was headed nowhere and the Chelsea fans had completely turned on him.
That was Chelsea’s first season under BlueCo ownership. Four seasons have passed and success has been scant. As a result, the supporters’ frustrations have only grown since then. They might reach the breaking point with Rosenior much faster. Many have already.
The issue is, not much is going Chelsea’s way at the moment. Before getting everything to fall into place, Rosenior might have to make sure that his team are getting the small things right first.
Worrying Chelsea stat shows why Rosenior’s side have been so bad this season
Chelsea have a ton of problems. Many of them predate Rosenior’s time in the managerial hot seat. But it is now up to him to find a solution for them.
A stat recently emerged that in every Premier League game this season, Chelsea have been outrun by the opposition.
That is almost unbelievable. And it has to be one of the reasons why Chelsea have struggled so badly in this campaign. One can understand that they generally have more of the ball, which means the opposition have to run that bit more. But they cannot get outworked constantly, especially in the Premier League, and then expect to win.
Just one of the problems with overlooking experience
BlueCo have chosen to completely overlook the need for experience in recent years, signing mostly youngsters based on potential rather than what they have achieved. This might be just one of the side-effects of that strategy.
Of course, we can all point fingers towards the Chelsea manager. And the club have changed plenty of them already. The players need to be held accountable as well for how badly things have gone for the Blues over the past four seasons, since the BlueCo takeover.
