Emmanuel Petit wants Liam Rosenior to stop doing one thing at Chelsea

Liam Rosenior’s time at Chelsea is not going as he would have hoped when he quit Strasbourg to make the move to London. To be fair, he did pretty well at the start and won a lot of games. But even then, it felt like those wins came through moments of individual brilliance and the new manager bounce rather than whatever the team was doing on the pitch as an unit.

Those moments of individual brilliance have slowly faded away over the past two months under Rosenior. And Chelsea find themselves in a world of trouble. They have lost four on the trot. In the last three of those matches, they have not even managed to score a single goal.

With each passing defeat, Rosenior is losing the trust of the Chelsea supporters. Initially, the way he spoke to the media felt like a breath of fresh air. It was one of the primary reasons why the fans bought into the new direction after Enzo Maresca was sacked in the middle of the campaign.

But that early shine around Rosenior has faded away by now. His comments now sound mostly like excuses. And his coaching methods are starting draw criticism as well.

Rosenior told to stop doing one thing that is causing issues right now

One of the most-talked-about moments in recent weeks was when Rosenior handed Alejandro Garnacho a note, late in the second half of the second leg against PSG. Chelsea were losing the tie quite convincingly and there was little effect that the manager’s instructions might have had at that point.

Emmanuel Petit does not seem to believe that Rosenior needs to making constant notes. He said on talkSPORT (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

“The way he’s acting, his body language on the bench, the way he’s always trying to write things down on the paper then giving it to his players, I mean… come on.

“They [the players] don’t get it, it was the case 20 years ago as well, we don’t get it so don’t do that, we’re not stupid, we’re not kids so just try to behave in the right way.”

What does the future hold for Rosenior at Chelsea?

When Rosenior was handed the six-and-a-half-year contract by Chelsea, he would have hoped to remain at the club for the foreseeable future. But if things don’t improve quickly, he won’t even come close to seeing out that deal.

It is very clear that Chelsea need to get back to winning games as soon as possible. That is easier said than done. It does not feel like there is an immediate way out for Chelsea.

They will need to play as a team and get out of this situation as a whole. If they can’t do that quickly enough, Rosenior’s time in the hot seat will come to an end.
