As Chelsea continue to struggle, it is unsurprising that some of the club’s best players are being linked with moves away. Enzo Fernandez has sounded uncertain when asked about his future at Stamford Bridge, only sparking more rumours. On the other hand, whispers about Cole Palmer being a Manchester United target have refused to go away.

Now, you can add Moises Caicedo’s name to that list as well. Real Madrid are expected to be looking for a midfielder in the summer.

It has not taken long for Caicedo’s name to be linked with Real Madrid. But is there any truth to the rumour? Or is it just a creation of the rumour mill?

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano said:

“Moises Caicedo really has this desire to be part of the Chelsea project. Really feels the love of Chelsea fans and Chelsea people, so there is a very good connection between Caicedo and Chelsea.

“Of course, it’s not been an easy season for Chelsea, we know that. But at the same time, Caicedo believes in the project. Don’t forget that Caicedo had the possibility to go to Liverpool when he joined Chelsea a few years ago, and now he still feels that there is more to win, more to do at Chelsea. So he wants to become a Chelsea legend, that’s been the word by Moises Caicedo.

“And also, it’s important to clarify, Real Madrid never really started a negotiation or never really started talks to sign Moises Caicedo. That was just a question linked to the fact that Real Madrid are expected to work on the midfielders’ market in the summer, but it doesn’t mean that they are going for Moises Caicedo. Real Madrid didn’t make any contact, but still, to see Caicedo say those things is obviously important for Chelsea fans.”

Fabrizio Romano confirms Caicedo situation amid Real Madrid links

Caicedo is one of the few players Chelsea have that can be termed as ‘world-class’ at his best. Of course, many fans have felt that since the arrival of Liam Rosenior, the midfielder has been struggling to perform at the peak of his powers.

Is it possible that Rosenior’s tactics do not fit Caicedo’s playing style? If so, how much sense does it make for the club to continue with him as the manager?

It is good to see that Caicedo wants to remain at Chelsea and become a club legend. He will need a manager, though, who is capable of bringing out the best in him.

What is Caicedo’s best position at Chelsea?

This is something that has divided the opinion of the supporters. Some feel that Caicedo should be playing in a pure defensive midfield role, as he is at his best when it comes to breaking down opposition attacks. Considering how bad the Blues have been defensively this season, the backline could do with the extra help. It would be the kind of role that N’Golo Kante played under Antonio Conte, when Chelsea won the Champions League.

On the other hand, there are those who feel that Caicedo has too much quality going forward to just be a defensive midfielder. There is truth to that idea as well. He can make great forward passes, carry the ball and even score goals.

Chelsea won’t be making the most of those aspects of his game if they play him as a pure defensive midfielder. So, it is about finding the right balance with the Ecuadorian. If they can do that, they have a world-class player in their ranks who can help turn things around for BlueCo.
