Although Joao Pedro has been decent under the management of Liam Rosenior, it feels like Chelsea are still short a striker at the moment. The Blues have not scored in their last three games. That should tell you everything you need to know about their struggles going forward.
Chelsea are set to sign Emmanuel Emegha in the summer from Strasbourg. The Dutch striker has spent most of the season out injured though, making just 11 appearances and scoring seven goals.
In his absence, Joaquin Panichelli has stepped up for Strasbourg. He has scored 20 goals this season and has become a full Argentine international on the back of those performances.
Unsurprisingly, that has seen Panichelli being linked with a move to Chelsea. They have signed players from sister club Strasbourg on a consistent basis, even though that has left the French club’s fans unhappy. But any potential move that the Blues might have been planning is probably now completely off the table.
Panichelli suffers serious injury amid rumours of Chelsea move
According to Martin Arevalo, Panichelli has suffered a serious injury. As a result, the Argentine striker is now out of the World Cup.
It is believed to be an ACL injury. That means that not only is Panichelli expected to miss the World Cup, but it is very likely that he will be out for a significant portion of the upcoming season as well. That should rule out any chances of Chelsea making a move for the Argentine in the summer.
Will Chelsea’s striker search end this summer?
Panichelli could have been a decent addition to this Chelsea team. But now, the most important thing is that he recovers from his ACL injury and returns to full fitness as soon as possible. Unfortunately, he is going to be out for a while. We can only wish the Argentine the best of luck in his recovery.
As for Chelsea, they must keep an eye out for other strikers who could fit what they need. Of course, it is worth mentioning that Panichelli is not the only one the Blues have been linked with in recent times. Quite a few others are seemingly on their radar, if rumours are anything to go by.
It is worth keeping an eye out for Liam Delap’s situation as well. The Englishman has failed to adjust to life at Stamford Bridge and has only scored three times since his summer move. As a result, he is already being linked with an exit, which would leave the Blues further short of options.
