Chelsea’s recruitment has come under heavy scrutiny in recent times. The Blues have spent over a billion pounds on their squad since the BlueCo takeover but the results have not justified the investment. It appears to have been a mistake to focus fully on bringing in youngsters and completely overlooking the need for experience and proven ability to play winning football, both when it comes to players and managers.
Chelsea might find themselves at a crossroads at the end of the season. It would have been four years since the BlueCo takeover, and the club have little to show for it so far.
The Club World Cup win last summer and securing Champions League football under Enzo Maresca were positives. But the Blues have immediately taken several steps back this season and find themselves back at square one.
Now, rumours are starting to crop up about several of the club’s top players eyeing a potential exit in the summer. That is understandable. Why would they want to remain at Chelsea if they are not able to compete for the biggest prizes in football?
Chelsea player backed for Arsenal move in the future
Out of all the players that Chelsea signed in the summer, Joao Pedro is the one who has impressed the most. The Brazilian has drawn a few blanks in recent weeks, but overall, he has been one of the club’s better performers.
His form has gone up a few levels since the appointment of Liam Rosenior. But Pedro is already being backed for a big move away from Chelsea in the future, with Arsenal being suggested as a possible destination.
Keinan Davis is currently the main man up front for Udinese. But back when he was in England, he got the chance to play with Pedro at Watford. According to talkSPORT, he said regarding his former teammate:
“To see him at Chelsea now is like…Even if he went to Arsenal or something like that, I wouldn’t be surprised; he’s very good.”
Pedro being linked with a move away should worry fans
The most worrying thing about this is the category Chelsea suddenly find themselves in. Leaving Stamford Bridge for Arsenal is now seen as making the ‘next step’. For the last two decades, it would have been completely the opposition.
Unfortunately, this is the new reality for Chelsea. Now, it is up to the Blues to dig themselves out of this situation.
It will take BlueCo to make a few tweaks to their strategy. But are they willing to make that adjustment? Or will they stick to what is looking like a failing model?
