- Atletico Madrid eyeing Chelsea player
- Top players linked with Chelsea exit over the last few weeks
- BlueCo need to tweak their transfer policy
This week, all the talk surrounding Chelsea has been regarding potential exits. Enzo Fernandez’s comments seem to suggest that he already has a foot out of the Stamford Bridge door. Cole Palmer continues to be linked with a move away as well, as he continues to struggle to match his past heights. And Marc Cucurella’s name has been added to that list recently as well.
Cucurella has come out and criticised the club’s decision to sack Enzo Maresca mid-season. He also questioned the transfer policy of signing only youngsters and pointed out how experience was needed to navigate big games, like the Champions League round of 16 tie against PSG.
Will this lead to BlueCo rethinking their transfer model and making tweaks that have been needed for a while? Or will this lead to Cucurella’s exit from the club?
Cucurella has already admitted that he would find it difficult to turn down Barcelona if his boyhood club came back calling. But it looks like a different Spanish giant are interested in signing him.
Marc Cucurella is a dream target for Atletico Madrid
According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Atletico Madrid are studying the left-back position. Cucurella the ideal dream target. He is viewed as a perfect fit, which would also have the approval of the red and white coaching staff.
He is a left-back who plays on the front foot. Last season, Cucurella also showed the ability to contribute with goals. That might be exactly what Atletico Madrid need, having never been able to replace Felipe Luis.
But Chelsea’s stance on the matter is believed to be clear. Cucurella is not available for transfer. Of course, things can change very quickly in football.
Top players being linked with exits is a worry for Chelsea
Chelsea might be staring at the end of this version of the BlueCo model already. It has become pretty evident that their top players are not exactly willing to hang about and wait for an uncertain length of time for things to fall into place. There is little evidence to suggest that they ever will.
It is high time that the club consider tweaking their transfer strategy. Bringing in some proven quality and experience is the need of the hour.
On the other hand, they cannot afford to lose to someone like Cucurella, one of the few in the squad with experience and leadership quality. He is one of the Blues’ most consistent performers and a nailed-on starter for the Spain national team. Whether Atletico Madrid are interested or not, Chelsea should not consider letting him go.
