It has been a tough few weeks for Chelsea. They have lost four on the trot. The Blues have not even scored in their previous three outings. That is not in line with the image of an exciting and dominant squad that BlueCo have seemingly trying to present to the fans for the past four seasons.
This team, and the entire project, seems to be falling apart right in front of our eyes. Despite making record investments in the team, Chelsea can’t even qualify for the Champions League consistently. The likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United have achieved that on a much smaller budget.
Could it be the end of this current iteration of the BlueCo project? Players are now starting to come out and openly question the think-tank. And some key names might even be trying to leave. One such player is Enzo Fernandez.
Fernandez’s comments after the loss against PSG have thrown his future into doubt and left some of his teammates unimpressed. The Argentine midfielder had said:
Chelsea players unimpressed with Enzo Fernandez’s antics in recent weeks
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea players are unhappy with Fernandez. They have been left unimpressed by the Argentina midfielder’s recent antics. He has berated his own teammates on the pitch during the four successive defeats and been vocal in the dressing room after them.
Over the years, Fernandez has made a point of squaring up to former Chelsea players when facing them after they left the club. But the irony has not been lost on some, given that those players never publicly put their futures in doubt.
What does the future hold for Fernandez?
It should come as no surprise that Chelsea players might not be impressed with how Fernandez has handled things in recent weeks. He refused to rule out an exit when asked about his future after the second leg against PSG. Right before that match, reports had emerged in Argentina that there were chances of him leaving in the summer.
Fernandez is supposed to be one of the leaders of this team. He is the one often wearing the captain’s armband, as Reece James has missed games, either due to load management or injury.
Recently, he even said that Madrid is a city that he would like to live in someday. Incidentally, he has been heavily linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu for a few years now. So, Fernandez seemingly trying to engineer a move away from the club, while Champions League qualification is still up for grabs, might not sit right with many.
