Chelsea considering £60 million move for Sunderland player

There are quite a few positions where Chelsea need to strengthen in the summer transfer window. The need for a centre-back has been clear all season. Hopefully, an experienced and proven addition will be made in the heart of defence. In midfield, a top signing would be necessary if Enzo Fernandez does end up leaving. And it would be a mistake to overlook the importance of bringing in a new goalkeeper as well.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping position has been a problem since Thibaut Courtois left the club for Real Madrid in 2018. A world-record move for Kepa Arrizabalaga fell far short of expectations. Edouard Mendy was great for a short period of time, helping the club win the Champions League, before his form dipped.

Robert Sanchez has been the number one for most of the BlueCo era. He has had some brilliant games along the way. But all things considered, he is consistent enough to be the goalkeeper for a Premier League contender. The Spaniard seems to be a player who easily loses his confidence while always having an error in his game.

On the other hand, Filip Jorgensen has never really convinced either. Like Sanchez, he has an error or two in him as well. And while the Spaniard is brilliant at commanding the box, the Danish international seems to struggle with aerial balls and the physical nature of English football.

Chelsea eyeing move for Premier League-proven goalkeeper

Some recent reports have suggested that BlueCo will be looking to bring in some established Premier League-proven players this summer, slightly tweaking their transfer model. And a Sunderland goalkeeper seems to be on their radar.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea have a strong interest in Robin Roefs. The Blues assessing potentially paying up to £60 million for the Sunderland goalkeeper but also face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City.

Would Robin Roefs solve Chelsea’s problems?

Roefs has been a revelation at the back for Sunderland. The Dutchman is good at all aspects of the game between the posts. It is only a matter of time before he earns himself a big move.

Roefs in the 82nd percentile for both saves and save percentage. And he is in the 100th percentile when it comes to high claims.

On the other hand, Roefs is great with the ball at his feet as well. He is in the 94th percentile when it comes to chances created. That being said, he has made a couple of errors leading to a goal.
