Chelsea eyeing Xabi Alonso in bad news for Liam Rosenior

Share

The managerial problems at Chelsea seems to be a matter of serious concern amongst both the fans and the club management. The Blues have now had five different permanent managers since BlueCo’s takeover in 2022.

That has been a reason for the lack of stability within the club over the past few seasons. Every time you change managers, the players have to adapt to a new system. And as we are seeing right now under Liam Rosenior, that is not a simple transition to make, especially in the middle of the season.

Despite bringing in some of the brightest talents in world football, the Blues have failed to achieve their targets over the past few seasons. Enzo Maresca was the pick of the bunch in terms of their managerial recruits. But even he was shown the exit door just six months after winning the Club World Cup.

How has Liam Rosenior fared so far?

The Blues replaced Maresca with Rosenior at the start of the year. But after a span of only three months, the fans are already tearing into the board’s decision to bring in a manager without the resume for a club which hopes to compete with the biggest sides in world football.

The amount of money spent during the past few transfer windows speaks volumes about the club’s aspirations. But the results have not met the expectations. Not even close.

And now, as it seems, Rosenior’s time at Stamford Bridge could also be ticking fast. The Blues could already be looking at options to replace the Englishman.

Chelsea’s long-term interest in Xabi Alonso

According to a recent report by TEAMtalk, Chelsea are understood to have long admired Xabi Alonso. The Blues continue to keep a close eye on his situation. But despite the growing speculation, the Spanish manager’s camp insist that no formal discussions have taken place with any club.

The Blues are rumoured to have kept tabs on Alonson since his days in the Bundesliga. There he won the league with Bayer Leverkusen, against all odds and expectations.

Alonso’s stint at Real Madrid didn’t quite go as planned. That might be more down to his failure to manage the big names rather than his tactical acumen. There won’t be any such problems when it comes to Chelsea’s young squad. Also, he did achieve a win rate of more than 70% in the Spanish capital.

Chelsea will face competition from other English clubs

The Blues are definitely not the only English club to admire the 44-year-old manager. Liverpool are rumoured to be keen on bringing their former midfielder back to Anfield as Arne Slot’s exit looks more imminent now than ever. Manchester City are also in the mix, with a probable departure of Pep Guardiola in sight. Interestingly, Maresca is also believed to be a target.

Despite the rumours, there is no news of any official contact being made between any of the interested clubs and Alonso’s camp. The Spaniard remains one of the most sought-after managers despite the failed stint at Real Madrid. And it might just work out well for BlueCo’s vision at Chelsea, as it perfectly fits their idea of relying on youth over experience with an eye on long-term goals.
