- Chelsea told to snub Fabregas despite recent links
- Liam Rosenior feeling the pressure at Chelsea
- Experienced Argentine manager backed for the job
Liam Rosenior, who took over after Enzo Maresca, has faced heavy criticism after a string of poor performances from Chelsea. And if history is anything to go by, the manager might soon be on his way out of the club.
Chelsea are out of the Champions League after an 8-2 defeat at the hands of PSG over two legs. Their chances of making the top four in the Premier League are not looking any better either. So a change of personnel in the dugout could take place at the end of the season.
Former Chelsea player Cesc Fabregas has been linked with the club as a potential candidate to replace Rosenior as manager. However, another former Blues star, William Gallas, has suggested the club should snub the Spaniard in favour of an Argentine.
According to Metro, Gallas told football odds:
‘What kind of manager did Chelsea need? I think it all depends on what you are looking for. For the long-term, you can bring in Cesc Fabregas because he is doing well with his club at the moment.
‘He is young and able to speak to a young squad. He’s doing a good job. In the long term, he can bring Chelsea back to the positions where everybody wants to see Chelsea.
‘If you are thinking about the short-term, to have success straight away, they need that experienced head to guide them like Diego Simone and with his personality he can win things very soon with Chelsea.
‘Maybe the Chelsea players need him too because we need to see more warriors and soldiers in the team after what they’ve shown us. I think you need that type of manager who is a little bit more harsh on the players.’
Can Diego Simeone be the answer to Chelsea’s problems?
Simeone is known for instilling a fighting spirit among his players, something Chelsea’s squad might need currently. The Blues undoubtedly have some of the best youngsters but have failed to perform consistently. When the going gets tough, they often seem to wilt under the pressure.
Simeone has also maintained an impressive record against Premier League teams over the years. Most recently, Atletico Madrid knocked Tottenham Hotspur out of the Champions League with a 7-5 win on aggregate.
That said, it seems unlikely that he would leave his job in Madrid, which he has held since 2011, and come to London, especially after how things have played out under the BlueCo ownership. So, Chelsea might have to bring in someone else if they sack Rosenior.
Why Cesc Fabregas makes sense for Chelsea
Fabregas knows Chelsea’s way of operating. He has proven his tactical skills at Como and, most importantly, in managing a young squad. So he is an ideal candidate to be in charge of the Blues.
Although he does not have the same experience that Simeone has, he certainly has shown enough promise to suggest that he could grow into the role if given the chance.
Anyway, the fact of the matter is that Chelsea’s managerial situation is volatile at the moment. It remains to be seen who fans would want to see as the man in charge, especially if their results continue to disappoint in the coming weeks.
