It would be safe to say that most Chelsea fans would like to see Liam Rosenior shown the exit door. The Englishman had made a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge. But even those early wins had come on the back of individual brilliance and comebacks. Things appear to have fallen apart over the last few months though.
Chelsea are going through a nightmare run of form right now. Just one win in their last seven Premier League games. They have not even scored in their last three. Overall, they have lost five on the trot against opponents from the top division. Three of their last five wins have come against lower league teams in the FA Cup.
That should tell you everything you need to know about how bad things have gotten. Rosenior has not shown anything to suggest that he is capable of turning this around. On the contrary, things are getting worse with every passing game. And he does not have the past resume to suggest this is only a bad run, and it will all work out eventually, if he is given time.
But several reliable sources have suggested that Chelsea want to back Rosenior and see him as the long-term manager, even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. They will review his performance in the summer of 2027. And it looks like there is only one circumstance in which he will be sacked before that.
Chelsea will part ways with Liam Rosenior this soon only on one condition
According to the Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill (via PYS), Rosenior was told he wouldn’t face an immediate summer 2026 review. Only something approaching an ‘absolute meltdown’ would cause Chelsea into another change of coach. The English manager is heavily involved in recruitment meetings.
Well, Chelsea’s current run of form can be considered an ‘absolute meltdown’ if you ask me. This has gotten as bad as the final weeks of Graham Potter’s run. Perhaps even worse than that.
Back then, there were similar briefings to the media as well. But eventually, BlueCo did show Potter the exit door before the season had even ended. I am pretty convinced that Rosenior will get at least until the end of the season. But his future might be decided depending on where Chelsea finish.
Chelsea’s financial situation is a long-term worry
Chelsea cannot really afford to lose out on Champions League football right now. Coming into the season, qualifying would have been the minimum expectation. But right now, that seems unlikely to be met.
In fact, they are closer to the bottom half of the table than the fifth spot. And after what we have seen over the past few weeks, and the schedule of games Chelsea have, I no longer expect them to qualify for the Champions League.
There is a much better chance that they miss out on European competitions altogether. Four years into the BlueCo project, that would be a massive failure on the part of the management, if it does happen.
