‘Devastated for him’ – Chelsea boss shares Estevao injury news

When it rains, it pours. It feels like a downpour of bad news for Chelsea at the moment. The loss against Manchester United pretty much ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. Mathematically, they still have a chance, especially if Liverpool lose this weekend in the Merseyside derby. But realistically, it is hard to see the Blues make it. Based on form, the teams behind them have a much better chance.

Chelsea have now lost four games in a row in the Premier League without scoring a goal. Overall, they have tasted defeat six times on the trot against top division teams, two coming in the Champions League against PSG, 8-2 on aggregate.

Unfortunately, nothing seems to be going Chelsea’s way at the moment. Estevao, one of the few players who looks capable of producing a moment of magic in this team, suffered an injury against Manchester United.

And judging from Liam Rosenior’s comments after the game, it might be an issue that keeps him out for a while. There is a chance he might even miss the World Cup for Brazil.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior provides Estevao injury update

According to The Standard, Rosenior said after the loss to Manchester United regarding the situation of Estevao:

“Yeah, he was devastated.

“He was crying at half-time. Really devastated for him.

“It looks like it’s his hamstring. And that’s a moment, actually, when he’s running through on their goal for a one-v-one and pulls his hamstring in that moment.

“They’re good lads, I have to say. They’re honest, they’re working hard. I don’t want them to feel like everything’s against them. And I hope Este comes back sooner rather than later.”

The extent of the injury remains to be seen. But it is understandable why Estevao would have been devastated. The World Cup is just months away and he surely would not want to miss it. Of course, Chelsea have some vital games coming up as well. They will want to have the Brazilian on the pitch if possible. Now, we can only wait and see.

Estevao has had his injury problems lately. Perhaps it is a reminder that he is still just 18 years old and there is a long way to go for him. Hopefully, the injury is not as serious as it sounds and he returns to fitness before the end of the season. We can only wish him the best.

What’s next for Chelsea after losing to Manchester United?

Estevao’s injury is an added headache for a Chelsea team that has plenty of problems right now. And it is hard to think of a situation in which this season ends on a positive note.

Champions League football is as good as gone. The path to the FA Cup won’t be simple either, especially with Manchester City still in the competition.

Rosenior’s side cannot find a way to win or score, at the moment. This might very well be the lowest point of the BlueCo. Unfortunately, the trajectory seems to be heading further down.

matchday.
