It would be a bit of an understatement to say that the majority of the Chelsea fanbase has given up on Liam Rosenior. With one win in his last eight Premier League games, four losses on the trot and goalless over that run, it is not hard to understand why. BlueCo seem keen to stick with him. But the Englishman has shown very little to suggest that would be the right decision.
Giving Rosenior the pre-season and building the team in his own during the summer might go down as another in a long line of mistakes the club have made during the BlueCo era. The Blues’ results under the English manager have been historically bad.
Chelsea can’t even score at the moment, forget winning games. They have been goalless in their last five and lost six on the trot when facing top division opponents. A 7-0 win over League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup is sandwiched somewhere in between all those defeats.
That is nowhere near good enough. It might be a much better idea for Chelsea to start afresh with a new manager in the summer if results do not improve drastically under Rosenior by the end of the campaign. Cesc Fabregas is someone who has been linked with the Blues in recent times. And their chances of appointing him in the future have now been handed a boost, thanks to comments made by Como FC’s president.
Como President’s comments hand Chelsea Fabregas hope
Fabregas has done a fantastic job as Como manager so far. The club are sitting at fifth in the Serie A table, exceeding all expectations in the process.
One has to wonder if all the recent noise around Fabregas has affected the side. They are winless in their last three Serie A outings, which has left them out of the Champions League spots.
On the other hand, Como president Mirwan Suwarso has sounded open to the idea of Fabregas leaving for a top club someday. According to Metro, he told Italian outlet Revista Undici:
‘Cesc is really very important for us, but we would be stupid not to think that one day he could go to Arsenal, Barcelona or Chelsea.
‘If he continues to win with us or in any case to be successful, even if I cannot speak for him, I believe he could have bigger dreams.
‘Having said that, I hope that as long as he is here he will help us create a success plan also for those who will have to replace him.
‘For me, when he leaves, if he ever leaves, he should be the one to choose who will take his place. He should be involved in the choice.
‘Being a member of the Board of Football, he will have to help us appoint the next coach.’
What would Fabregas bring to this team?
In the grand scheme of things, Fabregas is not the most experienced coach in the world either. So, appointing him would be a bit of a risk as well.
That being said, from his playing days, he has proven himself to be a winner. He won at Chelsea, Spain, Arsenal, Barcelona, pretty much wherever he went.
Also, he showed that he is capable of dealing with the pressure at top clubs. That could help him a lot, if he finds himself back at Chelsea, this time in the dugout.
