It would be safe to say that Chelsea’s squad building is one of the primary reasons why they find themselves in their current predicament. At times, it has felt like the club are more concerned with reinventing football strategy rather than focusing on winning. The result is that they are now left with a roster with little balance, lacking consistency and no experience.
You should not miss out on Champions League football after spending north of a billion pounds on a team. Yet, it looks like that is exactly what the Blues are about to do.
Of course, Liam Rosenior has faced heavy criticism. His Chelsea team has lost four consecutive Premier League games without scoring a goal. They are on a six-game losing streak when it comes to facing top-flight opponents. Three of their last four wins have come against lower league teams. And they have not kept a clean sheet in the league since his first game in charge, more than three months ago.
What Rosenior cannot be blamed for is the squad he is working with. He has had nothing to do with it. And while Chelsea parting ways with the manager might be part of the solution in the summer, it won’t solve all of their problems magically. They have to make some quality signings while also parting ways with a number of their underperforming stars.
Chelsea ready to let Alejandro Garnacho leave this summer
When breaking through into the first-team picture at Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho was tipped for the very top of the footballing world. Still just 21, his career looks to be a crossroads already though.
Garnacho left Manchester United under controversial circumstances. Just look at how his former teammates reacted to him when the two teams met at the weekend. And while he might have pushed through a move to Chelsea in the summer, his time at Stamford Bridge might already be nearing its end.
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are willing to part with Garnacho this summer. There is already an acceptance among the Stamford Bridge hierarchy that the signing is not working out.
Best step for both club and player
It might be best for all parties to part ways. I maintain that Garnacho has been much better than Jamie Gittens. But it looks like the majority of the fanbase have already made their minds up on the Argentine. And he himself seems to be lacking in confidence right now.
Of course, there have been flashes of quality along the way. The brace against Arsenal comes to mind. But those have been few and far between. For the most part, Garnacho has struggled to make much of an impact.
Perhaps a move away from England might be best for Garnacho. Just look at the likes of Antony and Marcus Rashford, former Manchester United teammates, and the impact they have been able to make in Spain. I would not be surprised if the Argentine does something similar. If Chelsea fail to get a good offer for him in the summer, letting him join a La Liga club on loan would not be a bad idea.
