Following Chelsea’s recent defeat against Manchester United in the Premier League, the Blues are now closer to being 11th in the points table than getting into the top five spots. Their European hopes are fading and remaining fixtures certainly don’t make things any easier.
The Blues’ chances of playing in the Champions League next season are now slim. They are now seven points behind fifth-placed Liverpool with an away game against the Merseyside team scheduled for the ninth of May. Other that that, games against Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest also remain on the calendar. With one win in their last eight Premier League games, everything seems difficult.
Champions League qualification not only provides a platform to compete against the biggest clubs but it also helps during transfer negotiations. Playing in the elite European competition is something every player dreams of. So, not being able to offer it makes one’s position weaker.
Chelsea’s transfer window depends on how they finish
After a seemingly poor campaign from the Blues, the club management would definitely plan to bring in quality recruits during the upcoming summer transfer window in order to bolster their squad. But who will they be able to sign without Champions League football on the table?
The Blues have been linked with quite a few names over the past few weeks, but their position in the league table might pose a significant drawback. And now, it appears that their interest in Eduardo Camavinga might not be as strong as once thought.
Chelsea stance on Eduardo Camavinga
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Manchester United are the clubs showing the “most concrete interest” in Camavinga. Chelsea and Tottenham’s attention in the Real Madrid player is more limited.
Camavinga has already played and won two Champions League finals with Los Blancos. He will definitely have aspirations to add to that tally, and as it stands, the Blues are seemingly not in the position to help the player reach his goals.
The financial aspect of the transfer is also a key factor for the Blues. Real Madrid are looking to get a transfer fee of around €50-€60 million for the versatile midfielder. Chelsea, without Champions League football, might not be in a position to splash out in the summer.
Could a swap deal emerge as an option?
With Enzo Fernandez being linked with a move to the Spanish capital, the Blues could see a possible swap deal emerging, maybe from Los Blancos or from their own side. If the Argentine did eventually head for Los Blancos, could they ask for Camavinga as part of the transfer package?
As of now, the Blues are being linked with a variety of midfielders. That includes Alex Scott of Bournemouth, Noah Sadiki of Sunderland and several others. But none of them have the pedigree of Camavinga.
