Initially, it was believed that Chelsea were not going to review Liam Rosenior’s performance before the summer of 2027. But following the results over the last few weeks, the media’s tune has changed a bit when it comes to the manager’s current situation at Stamford Bridge. And it is understandable as well.
Rosenior looks completely out of his depth at the moment. His Chelsea team look toothless and completely out of ideas. They have not scored in their last five games against top-flight opponents and have lost six on the trot. A win over Port Vale, relegation contenders in League One, is sandwiched somewhere in between all those defeats.
Naturally, a large section of the fanbase is calling for Rosenior to be sacked. He was booed at full-time after the defeat against Manchester United.
But what is Chelsea’s stance on the matter? It certainly appears to have become more flexible, as many in the media, including Fabrizio Romano, are now pointing out that things need to change. But does that mean that a sack is being considered?
What do Chelsea think about sacking Liam Rosenior?
According to Football Insider, Chelsea remain keen to give Rosneior a full pre-season. They are said to be sympathetic to his situation. His position at the helm will be re-assessed if the team endures a rocky start to the next campaign. It will need things to “unravel” drastically if he is to be shown the exit door before then.
Well, what is happening at Chelsea currently can be described as a drastic unravelling of things. The Blues are closer to the team in 14th than they are to Liverpool in 5th.
So, Champions League qualification is pretty much gone. And with that, the club might be about to say goodbye to a number of their key players as well, who might not be keen to hang around after four years of mediocrity under BlueCo.
Does it make sense to continue with Rosenior?
To be very honest, to me, it does not make much sense to continue with Rosenior beyond this season. Of course, that is just my opinion. Let me explain my thought process.
So far, Rosenior has shown nothing to suggest that he has what it takes to fix the issues at hand. In fact, the longer he has remained at the club, the worse they have performed. The briefings seem to be putting a ton of weight on pre-season. But how much can it really change things?
Also, giving Rosenior the pre-season would mean that the summer transfer targets will be decided alongside him. Do you want to kick off a squad rebuild with a manager who has overseen some of the worst results in Chelsea history since coming in?
It looks like Chelsea have recognised the need for ‘ready-made’ players. Then why are they overlooking the importance of having a proven winner in the dugout, managing them?
