Liam Rosenior set to be sacked, said goodbye to Chelsea players

Share

It appears that the Liam Rosenior era at Chelsea is set to come to an end. It is not official yet. But if reports coming out in the media this morning are accurate, then an official confirmation might not be far away. At best, he might end up getting the game against Leeds United to save his job. But can anybody see the Blues winning anything based on form?

Chelsea have now lost five Premier League games in a row without scoring a single goal. That is their worst run of form since 1912, more than a century ago.

Even a week back, BlueCo seemed keen to back Rosenior, at least until the pre-season. But it looks like that situation might have changed already. Understandably so as comments made by the manager after the Brighton game might have made his position untenable, if the results had not already.

There are some conflicting reports around the situation. Some have gone as far as claiming that Rosenior has already been sacked and announcement will be made soon.

Journalist drops update on Liam Rosenior’s potential Chelsea sacking

According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Simon Phillips wrote regarding the situation of Rosenior:

“SPTC Sources heard that he basically pretty much said ‘goodbye’ to all his staff and his players at the end of the game and didn’t even do a post-match team talk – he just headed out.

“Further to this, he’s completely lost the dressing room. We’ve heard that this really hit home to him last night. The players do not trust or respect him as a coach, and some of them have even been laughing and joking about him within their circles. There’s no way he can stay now, and the club know this. I believe his position has become untenable.

“The ‘issue’ I believe is that they are deciding on who will take the reins, if they can find anyone permanent now, or do they get an interim to see them through.

“The latter is most likely, and sources have told us that Callum McFarlane is in line to be our temporary manager until we find the next permanent one. Chelsea have not been contacting or moving on any other managers, so there is literally nobody lined up to come in. They wanted to keep backing and believing in Rosenior, but it could well be that they cannot do anything else but drop that desire now.

“I have not yet heard conclusively that Rosenior HAS been sacked. Some sources believe he has been. But I’ve not had full clarification on this yet. There is every chance that he still gets the Leeds game to ‘save’ his job for now, but again, nothing is conclusive yet.”

So, it looks like Chelsea do not have a replacement lined up yet. So, Calum McFarlane might find himself as the interim manager until the end of the season. But in the long run, it looks like the Rosenior experiment is set to come to an end. It remains to be seen if the report is accurate or not.

Rosenior looks close to being sacked, but who will replace him?

It is safe to say that Rosenior has not done much to warrant more time in the Chelsea job. Things simply cannot get any worse. Sacking him and handing the reins to McFarlane at least gives the club some chance of salvaging something out of this season.

In the long run, Chelsea do need to change their ways if they want to be successful. Changes are needed, and not just when it comes to recruitment. Experience and proven quality is required in the dugout as well, not just on the pitch.

In modern football, the manager is arguably the most important part of the team, considering how tactics-oriented the game has become. So, the club need a proven winner in there. Not someone who has had a bit of success at a mid-table club or one outside a top European league. And they need to give him his say on matters, not just be there to coach whatever players the recruitment team wants to sign.

To put it simply, Chelsea do not need an overachiever right now. They need someone who has proven he can achieve what is expected at a top club and deliver success consistently.
