When it rains, it pours. It has barely been 24 hours since Liam Rosenior was sacked but the talk seems to be already shifting towards key players who could depart this summer as well. Of course, Chelsea are most likely to miss out on Champions League football. It is questionable whether they will make any European competition.
Under these circumstances, it is normal for established players to seek other options. They will want to win trophies and compete with the best. Unfortunately, Chelsea do not seem capable of doing either at the moment.
There is all this talk about the club signing experienced players and bringing in a proven manager to convince everybody about the direction of this project. We will see it when we believe it.
On the other hand, it looks like rivals are already eyeing players they could sign from Chelsea. And one of them is on the radar of none other than Manchester City.
Manchester City said to be interested in Enzo Fernandez
According to The Athletic, Manchester City are considering Enzo Fernandez as a midfield option this summer. Their interest in the Chelsea midfielder is at an early phase and there are other targets they are also looking at, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
Of course, this comes at a time when the club are set to say goodbye to Bernardo Silva in the summer. Are they viewing Fernandez as a potential replacement?
Many Chelsea fans might feel that it would be worth parting with Fernandez for the right offer. That being said, the Argentine is exactly the kind of player who could go to Manchester City, develop his game there under Pep Guardiola and turn out to be a club legend. In that scenario, the Blues would be strengthening their rivals for the next decade.
Should Chelsea let Fernandez leave?
It has been a while since rumours have been swirling about Fernandez eyeing a Chelsea exit in the summer. He openly talked about wanting to live in Madrid someday and was handed a two-game suspension as well.
Now, it remains to be seen what Fernandez’s plans are, now that Rosenior is gone. Will that change anything?
It is very possible that a number of Chelsea players are waiting to find out who the next manager is going to be before deciding on their long-term future at the club. Let’s hope that the Blues are able to bring somebody capable of winning trophies consistently. Nothing else matters at Stamford Bridge.
