Who will be the next manager of Chelsea Football Club? That is a question we would like to find the answer to as soon as possible. Calum McFarlane is in charge until the end of the season. There is still the FA Cup to play for. But the Champions League qualification spots are as good as gone as the Blues slipped down to eighth before sacking Liam Rosenior.
The next managerial appointment is the most important in BlueCo’s history. The majority of the fanbase is frustrated with the ownership and it is up to them to win them over.
There have been reports suggesting they want someone proven to take charge next. But it remains to be seen what the definition of that is to BlueCo. Is it a high-profile manager with experience of managing at the highest levels and winning trophies? Or is it someone who has experience managing at the Premier League level for a while, even if for a mid-table club?
Those are two very different levels of proven. It remains to be seen which one BlueCo want. One name the club have been linked with in recent days is Cesc Fabregas, currently the manager of Como.
Cesc Fabregas handed green light to join Chelsea
There does not seem to be anything concrete about the Fabregas situation yet. But it looks like Como have already opened the door to an exit, if the manager wants to make that move.
According to City AM, club president Mirwan Suwarso said on the matter:
“If that makes him happy, that’s him.
“You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible but at the end of the day we don’t own him and he’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes.”
Would Fabregas be a good fit for this squad?
One thing that Chelsea need to get right is finding the perfect fit for the squad. You are never going to replace an entire roster just to make a managerial appointment work.
Fabregas is someone who might be a pretty good fit when it comes to this Chelsea side. Firstly, he plays a possession-based style, which did seem to suit these players under Enzo Maresca.
Secondly, Fabregas has shown the ability to produce results even when working with a squad full of youngsters. Just look at what he has achieved at Como.
Also, while not as a manager, he did spend the majority of his career in the Premier League. Five of those seasons at Chelsea. So, he should not know the English game like the back of his hand even though he might not have managed here yet.
