Most of the talk surrounding Chelsea right now is about the club’s next manager. The Blues have not been able to win a game, or even score a goal, in weeks. That led to the sacking of Liam Rosenior. It was a 107-day run to forget. During the Englishman’s time, they slipped down to eighth in the Premier League table and hopes of qualifying for the Champions League are as good as over.
Calum McFarlane has taken charge of the team on an interim basis until the end of the season. In the long run, Chelsea will need to find someone else.
It has been claimed that Chelsea do want someone with Premier League experience or with a history of success at a high level. Of course, it will be interesting to see how they define that.
Could Rosenior’s run at Strasbourg have been defined as a ‘success at a high level’, good enough to get the Chelsea job? Or will the club be aiming higher this time around?
Fabrizio Romano suggests Spanish manager would be keen on Chelsea job
Over the last few days, it has been claimed that several managers would not be interested in the Chelsea job. Julian Nagelsmann was the first one. Lately, Francesco Farioli’s name has been added to that list as well.
For a change, there is some positive news for Chelsea on this front. Not too long ago, the same claim was made about Andoni Iraola as well. But it looks like that is off the mark.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Iraola would be happy to remain in the Premier League. And he would be keen on the possibility of becoming the new Chelsea manager.
Could Iraola be the next manager of the club?
Of course, Iraola’s name has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill since Chelsea sacked Rosenior. It is worth mentioning that it has already been announced that he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.
So, he will be available as a free agent. And considering the excellent job that he did at Bournemouth, it is not hard to see why there might be plenty of interest in him.
That being said, would he be the right fit for Chelsea? Personally, I do not think so. The Spaniard is known for his high-intensity style of football while this squad is a lot more suited to a possession-based game that the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Xabi Alonso have championed.
