Over the last few days, since Liam Rosenior was sacked, Chelsea have been linked with a long list of managers. Some names have caught the imagination of the supporters. Most have not. Now, it remains to be seen what route the sporting directors and BlueCo eventually end up taking in this managerial search.
Quite a few current Premier League managers are believed to be on the radar of Chelsea. They have not impressed the club’s fans. Yet, it appears one of them is rated highly enough to be in talks over the Real Madrid job.
Real Madrid appointed Xabi Alonso last summer but the Spaniard was sacked in the middle of the season. Inconsistent results, combined with a frosty relationship with some key players, were believed to be the reason behind that. Alvaro Arbeloa was brought in as replacement as his replacement but is not expected to continue beyond this season.
So, like Chelsea, Real Madrid are also going to be on the lookout for a new manager this summer. And it appears that both clubs have a common target.
Real Madrid reportedly in talks with Marco Silva’s agents
According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon (via The Chelsea Chronicle), Marco Silva wants to become Real Madrid manager in the summer. Talks are underway between the Spanish club and his agents.
It is worth mentioning though that Silva is not the only manager being eyed by Real Madrid. But the Fulham boss being in consideration for the Bernabeu job will come as a surprise to many.
That being said, Real Madrid did appoint Carlo Ancelotti after he had finished mid-table with Everton. And look at how that turned out. So, if Los Blancos are convinced, they are willing to take a risk.
Chelsea or Real Madrid, where will Silva end up?
Of course, no matter how things go, Real Madrid will always have the ability to attract top managers. The same cannot be said about Chelsea, as the Blues might struggle to convince someone of that level to move to Stamford Bridge after what we have witnessed over the four seasons under BlueCo ownership.
It would be safe to say that most Chelsea fans would be mildly disappointed if someone like Silva ended up getting the job. But he is quite clearly regarded very highly in footballing circles around Europe.
Of course, Silva has done a phenomenal job at Fulham. Before him, they had spent years being a yo-yo club between the Premier League and the Championship. So, it is no surprise that he is expected to take the next step now.
