Chelsea eyeing move for 24-year-old Dutch international striker

Chelsea have been linked with quite a few Sunderland players in recent times. A move for Robin Roefs is believed to be under consideration as they search for a new number one between the posts. Their 21-year-old midfielder, Noah Sadiki, is said to be on the Blues’ radar as well. And now, it looks like it is time to add a third name to that list. Curiously, there are some reports of them being interested in their manager, Regis Le Bris.

It is no secret that Chelsea need to be scoring more goals. They had not scored in six straight games against top flight opponents before the weekend’s win over Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final. Even then, only one strike is all they could manage.

So, it would come as no surprise if the club are looking to strengthen their forward ranks this summer. And it appears that they are monitoring a Sunderland striker.

According to Simon Phillips (via The Chelsea Chronicle), the club have been scouting Brobbey this season.

Chelsea scouting Brian Brobbey of Sunderland but what does he bring to the table?

Brobbey is not an elite goalscorer by any stretch of the imagination. There has only been one season in which he has managed to score more than 20 goals in a season, the 23/24 campaign for Ajax.

In 27 Premier League appearances, Brobbey has scored six goals and provided one assist. But interestingly, he is someone who has risen to the occasion.

He has found the back of the net against teams like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Bournemouth. His lone assist came against none other than Chelsea.

If Brobbey can score goals more consistently, he could be a brilliant signing for Chelsea. But as things stand, he would be a squad addition at best. It is worth mentioning that he has 10 caps for the Netherlands national team as well, but just one international goal to his name.

Nicolas Jackson could be the answer

Also, one has to first understand what the future holds for Nicolas Jackson and what his plans are. The Senegalese striker might have faced quite a bit of criticism while he was at Chelsea. But the team have felt his absence, that is for sure.

Liam Delap has been poor since joining the club. There is a good chance he could leave after just one season in the Royal Blue jersey. And if Jackson is willing to stay, it would be the right idea to reintegrate him into the team.

He has always been brilliant when it comes to the build-up side of things. The Senegalese international can hold up the ball, play with his back to goal, run past his man and carry the ball up the pitch. Jackson is the type of striker who makes those around him better.

Jackson’s finishing has let him down in the past but one would hope that spending a season with Harry Kane will have helped him improve in that respect. Bayern Munich are not willing to meet the option in his deal. Hopefully, they have made him a better striker over the past season, even though he mostly played the role of a backup.
