Chelsea’s three-man shortlist for next manager comes to light

Who will be the next manager of Chelsea Football Club? The fans are waiting to find the answer to that question in the near future. Until the end of the campaign, Calum McFarlane will remain the interim boss. But after that, a new era will start for the Blues. Hopefully, a much more successful one than what we have witnessed until now under the BlueCo ownership.

It looks like Chelsea are keeping their eye out on three managers for the vacant role. And interestingly, all three of them have Premier League experience of some sort.

According to football.london, Chelsea are making checks on Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Xabi Alonso as options to become the next manager of the club.

The report further goes on to state that Chelsea have made initial contact with Iraola’s representatives. Silva is said to be admired by senior officials at the club. And Alonso is also on their radar.

Most Chelsea fans would prefer Xabi Alonso

Out of the three names that have been suggested, it is safe to say that most fans would prefer Alonso to become the next manager of Chelsea. He does not have any experience of managing in the Premier League but he spent plenty of time in English football as a player for Liverpool.

Alonso has also enjoyed the most success out of the trio. He won an invincible Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen not too long ago. In the process, he completely transformed that team while working with mostly youngsters. That would fit the Chelsea squad dynamic.

Yes, his spell at Real Madrid might not have been a success but Alonso still won more than 70 percent of his games there. And ultimately, it might have been his frosty relationship with some big-name players that led to his early departure, rather than the performances or results.

Iraola and Silva in contention for Stamford Bridge job as well

Iraola has done an excellent job at Bournemouth. But there are some concerns about whether his high-intensity pressing brand of football would fit the current Chelsea squad, which seems built for a possession-based style.

Silva has done an excellent job at Fulham and looks set to move on. Interestingly, he has been linked with the Real Madrid job recently. That goes to show how highly he is regarded in footballing circles.

It remains to be seen who Chelsea ultimately end up hiring as their next manager. Let’s just hope they get this appointment right.

matchday.
