The Chelsea rumour mill has been on overdrive for the past several days since Liam Rosenior got sacked. Most of the talk has been about potential managerial targets. Now, though, it looks like we have settled on a number of revolving names with one or two new ones cropping from time to time.
On the other hand, the club’s transfer activity this summer is going to be just as important. No matter who arrives as manager, they will need a quality squad to meet expectations at Chelsea.
For the past four years, the focus has been on signing the best youngsters from around the globe. Now, there is a need to bring in experienced and proven talent to help guide them while also improving the overall quality of the team from the get-go.
Anthony Gordon emerges as Chelsea target again
Anthony Gordon is expected to leave Newcastle United this summer. That has been the case for a while now. But Chelsea’s name had not been linked with him.
That is no longer the case. News emerged earlier that Chelsea are one of the teams interested in Gordon. Bayern Munich and Arsenal are said to be monitoring the winger as well.
Gordon has scored 10 goals in the Champions League this season. But his Premier League performances have not been on the same level, with just six goals so far. Still, he would be an upgrade on the options Chelsea have on the left flank.
Liam Delap wants to stay
While Chelsea are being linked with Gordon, one of the club’s players Newcastle United are rumoured to have an interest in is Liam Delap.
The English striker has struggled to meet expectations since his £30 million move in the summer. With just three goals to his name this season, it is unsurprising that Delap is already being linked with a move away.
Latest reports have emerged suggesting that Delap wants to stay and fight for his place in the team. Of course, it is good to see that but if he is unable to convince over the last five games of the season, it might be best for both parties to part ways.
West Ham United eyeing Nicolas Jackson
It has already been confirmed that Bayern Munich won’t take up the option to sign Nicolas Jackson permanently. So, he will return to Stamford Bridge this summer. But is he coming back to stay?
Jackson can be a solid addition to this team and was underrated by many during his two seasons at Chelsea, scoring 30 goals in total during that time. Despite his shaky finishing, that output is a lot better than what Delap has produced.
It is very possible that Jackson might still want to leave Chelsea. And it is believed that West Ham United are ‘making moves’ for him.
