Most of the talk surrounding Chelsea right now is about the club’s managerial situation and it is not hard to understand why. The club have parted ways with two managers this season. Enzo Maresca walked out at the start of the year. Liam Rosenior was sacked after three months in the job. Now, it is up to Calum McFarlane to see this campaign through. A permanent appointment will be made in the summer.
Quite a few names have been linked with the job over the past couple of weeks. One of them is Xabi Alonso. The former Real Madrid boss is without a club at the moment.
Another is Andoni Iraola, the current Bournemouth manager, set to be without a club in the summer. There are updates on both. But that’s not all.
Xabi Alonso interested in Chelsea job but there is a catch
Reports have emerged that Alonso would be interested in the Chelsea job. But he would need some convincing.
The Spaniard is said to want more control than what the club are currently offering. And he is not the only one of the candidates who has questions about the current model.
Will BlueCo be willing to change their model to bring in a top manager like Alonso? Or will they stick to their ways and appoint someone willing to work within the current parameters?
Iraola among favourites for Manchester United job
It looks like Chelsea are facing some competition in the race to sign Iraola this summer. And it comes in the form of Manchester United.
Iraola is reported to be Michael Carrick’s closest rival when it comes to the Manchester United job. Of course, the Spaniard will be available as a free agent in the summer and is believed to be highly regarded at Old Trafford.
Obviously, it is very likely that Carrick will get the job after guiding the club to the Champions League. That being said, do keep an eye out for Iraola as well, as things can change quickly in football.
Chelsea ready to sit with Enzo Fernandez over a new contract
There is a ton of speculation around the future of Enzo Fernandez at the moment as well. He has been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester City lately.
Reports have now come out claiming that Chelsea are ready to sit down with Fernandez after the end of the season to see if an agreement can be reached.
Fernandez is believed to be seeking a deal similar to Moises Caicedo and Reece James. I can’t think of a reason why that can’t be offered to him.
